A first notation in historical documents about an Orthodox cathedral in Dokšycy dates from fifteen fourteen.

It is approved that just in fifteen fourteen the uppermost hetman of Grand Duchy of Lithuania Kanstancin Astrožski built a first wooden Orthodox church in Dokšycy. Building of a first stone church in Dokšycy started in eighteen sixty three, in eighteen ninety nine the building of the old wooden church was taken to pieces and in one thousand nine hundred – one thousand nine hundred three the stone Orthodox church in Dokšycy was consecrated in honor of The Protection of the Mother of God. During The Second World War the building of the church was being used by Germans for keep of prisoners of war. In the postwar period the church was being closed only for repair.
