Monument to the victims of Chernobyl

The monument as an obelisk was set in memory of twenty-one person from the Čerykaŭ region which perished due to the damage at the Čarnobyĺ APP which took place in 1986.

The obelisk is situated near a lake which was overgrown with verdure. This obelisk is a reminder about twenty-one victims of Čarnobyĺ accident from villages of the Čerykaŭ region. Series of villages of the region were completely evicted because, as a result of contamination by radionuclide, these territories became unfit for life. This is memory and pain of Čarnobyĺ. It should be told that in Belarus in nineteen eighty-nine protest meetings of victims of Čarnobyĺ were hold, people were dissatisfied of actions of government to address this problem. And Čerykaŭ wasn't an exception but its inhabitants didn't stop there. Čerykaŭ walkers met with a chairman of Council of Ministers of USSR Nikolai Ryzhkov. Citizens arrived to him after meeting at the square in order to ask for help. As a result of a talk with them Ryzhkov said that a lot of heard from people of Čerykaŭ was novelty for him and promised to solve their questions.
