A pearl of Mscislaŭ is the rather well extant church of Assumption and a cloister of Carmelites.
The stone church of Assumption was built in baroque style in sixteen fifty four. In spite of repeated rebuilding it didn’t lose its beauty. Even placing in this building a granary in Soviet time didn’t strongly influence his external safety. But most regrettably internal adornment – unique frescos were noticeably damaged. Tragic occurrences of Thirty Years’ War with Muscovy were reflected on these frescos. On the twenty second of July sixteen fifty-four troops of Moscow voevode A. Trubieckoy annihilated fifteen thousand persons – eighteen percent of population of city. Two-storeyed private building and entrance gate in the cloister of Carmelites side with the church. A picturesque view to Castle hill opens from the cloister. Formerly a big wooden castle was on this rising ground. And now vegetable gardens are found on the hill.
