In the 19 century the Hory-Horki Agricultural Institute was the only higher educational institution on the territory of present-day Belarus.
A history of the institution begins in far out 1836 when an agricultural school was being opened in Horki and later the Agricultural Institute. Students of the Hory-Horki Agricultural Institute took part in the uprising of 1863-1864. Because of this, the only higher educational institution in the Belarusian lands was closed in 1864. It renewed its work only in 1919. Many famous scientists who were engaged in agricultural sciences exited from these walls. Now the Academy consists of multitude old and new buildings. Among built in the 19–the beginning of 20 century: an administrative building of the Academy, a building of a library, an academic building, a day-care, a common-room building, an appraiser building, a physic-chemical building, a dwelling in which by the way was living and teaching a classic of Belarusian literature Maksim Harecki. When speaking about literature one must mention that a famous work of Belarusian literature “Taras on Parnassus” was written by students in Horki.
