During the occupation of the city in July 1941, the Nazis created a ghetto for the concentration and extermination of the local Jewish population. For these purposes, the territory at the intersection of Savieckaja, Pieršamajskaja and Kastryčnickaja streets was allocated. On October 21, 1941, the events reached a particular brutality. On this day, almost 2,000 people were shot in a 32-meter-long pit in two and a half hours.

In 1949, a small memorial complex was erected on this site. It was in Dziaržynsk that Yiddish words appeared for the first time on a memorial plaque commemorating the victims of the Holocaust.

This site is known throughout the world as the site of one of the greatest crimes against humanity. Representatives of foreign states, who come to Dziaržynsk and the surrounding areas, attend the memorial during their visits. The monument has been preserved in excellent condition, visitors can familiarize themselves with the inscriptions and the general concept of the complex.
