In 1962, by decision of the Rahačoŭ District Council of Deputies, a local history museum was established on a voluntary basis in the city.
In 1962, by decision of the Rahačoŭ District Council of Deputies, a local history museum was established on a voluntary basis in the city. A local historian, one of the organizers of the partisan movement in the Rahačoŭ Region, Siamion Macviejevič Sviardloŭ, was its founder and first director.
In 1967, by order of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR, on the basis of the local history museum in the city, the Museum of People's Glory was opened, and on October 3 of the same year, personnel and staffing were approved. Since that time, the museum has acquired the status of a state museum.
In April 1970, by decision of the executive committee of the Rahačoŭ District Council of Deputies, the first exposition was opened, consisting of two halls: "Revolutionary events in the Rahačoŭ Region" and "The Great Patriotic War and the liberation of the city and region", which occupied an area of 58 square meters, and the entire museum area was 82 square meters.
In November 1991, the building of the former bank, which required repair and reconstruction, was allocated to the Museum of People's Glory to host a new exposition. The renovation work was completed in 1995. From 1996 to June 2000, artistic and design work was carried out to create a new exposition and halls of the museum. The grand opening of the museum took place on July 2, 2000.
In 2019, the main fund of the Rahačoŭ Museum of People's Glory was 28943 museum items, and the scientific auxiliary fund was 16635 museum items. All objects of the main fund of the museum are divided into 40 collections. The largest collections: "Archaeology", "Personal Documents", "Numismatics", "Phaleristics", "Printed Editions", "Photographs". Of great value are the collections of icons and old publications, as well as hoards of coins and weapons. The collection is unique, representing the works of Russian and Belarusian artists. A collection of Rogachev artists is presented separately; the works of Anatoĺ Kaplan are especially valuable.
