Slonim Local History Museum named after Jazep Stabroŭski is one of the most interesting museums in the Hrodna region.

The museum was founded by Jazep Stabroŭski, an archaeologist and local historian, a native of the village of Arlovičy in the Slonim district. A hereditary nobleman, the First World War participant, he devoted his whole life to studying and collecting historical artifacts. It was his ethnographic, numismatic, mineralogical and other collections that formed the basis of the first museum exhibition in Slonim.

For the first time, the museum opened its doors to visitors on September 20, 1929. Its exposition and funds numbered 5 thousand exhibits. In 1939, the museum received the state status. In 1957, the museum was moved to a two-story building on Lienin Square, where it has been located to this day.

The exposition of the museum is located in 9 halls. It is represented by the departments of nature and history. In the nature department, you can get acquainted with the physical and geographical characteristics of the region, minerals, see the remains of animals from the Ice Age, the region modern flora and fauna. The history department presents the most interesting objects of archaeological excavations carried out in Slonim, materials on the history of wars.

The museum collection has about 30 thousand items. The most valuable are the archaeological, numismatic and ethnographic collections. Among the unique exhibits are the Statute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania of 1648, a bust of Napoleon by the French sculptor R. Colombe (bronze, 1885).

The museum offers cultural and educational programs “Heritage of the City over Ščara” and “Bitter Memory of the War”, excursions to the exposition “World of Fantasy”, which operates in the museum’s exhibition hall at the address: Ružanskaja Street, 1.
