The monument of the unique letter of Belarusian language − letter “Ў” (“non-syllable u” or “u short”, the twenty second letter of Belarusian alphabet).

The Monument of the letter “Ў” stands at the beginning of the Skaryna Avenue. It was established in September 2003 during carrying out a national Holiday – “The Day of Belarusian written language”. The author of the monument is Ihar Kurzhalau. The monument is casted at one of Polock enterprises. The Monument “Ў” is the unique monument in the world. There is a logical explanation of this – no language except Belarusian has such a letter. “Ў” is a unique, exceptional symbol of Belarusian language. Although the monument is devoted only to one letter essentially it is the monument to distinctness and originality of culture of Belarusian people.
