One of the oldest Baptist churches in Belarus, the Christian spiritual center.
In 1907, the first Baptist church was founded in Homieĺ. Navum and Barys Prychodźkas stood at the origins of the Baptist movement in the regional center. In 1912, the church received official recognition from the authorities. However, the military events of the early 20th century led to the fact that the prayer house of the Homieĺ Baptist Church was built only in 1926. But already in 1933, in accordance with the anti-religious policy of the Soviet government, the prayer house was closed. A period of repression, persecution and arrests of church members began.
In the post-war period, the authorities did not give permission to open a prayer house, and services were held in the private homes of parishioners. In the late 1980s, atheistic propaganda weakened, and after an 8-year struggle, the believers managed to restore the official registration of the church. This happened in 1987.
The first service was held in 1990 in a new church building with a large prayer hall. The architecture of the temple is reminiscent of civil engineering objects, while the outside walls are decorated with bas-reliefs and inscriptions. The interior is decorated with stucco and biblical inscriptions.
The restoration of Belarus' independence in the 1990s created the conditions for a spiritual awakening. The Homieĺ church grew rapidly, and soon three new Baptist churches sprang up on its basis.
At present, a Sunday school, a youth choir, a library, Christian summer camps and other events operate at the Homieĺ Evangelical Baptist Church. Since 2002, a Christian spiritual center has been operating there. This is a large modern three-story building with a hotel and facilities for large-scale youth ministry. Today, about 500 people are members of the central baptist church of Homieĺ.
