The Museum of the History of the City of Homieĺ was founded in February 2009. This is a scientific and educational center that searches, organizes, and scientifically processes information on the history of the city of Homieĺ.
The museum is located in a historical building, which is associated with many events in the city history. This manor was built in 1820–1822 in the Empire style as one of the houses in the system of the estate ensemble of Count Mikalaj Rumiancaŭ. In the archives, the building is referred to as the "summer residence of the count" or "Hunting Lodge".
In Soviet times, various government organizations were housed in the building. After gaining independence, the building was restored and transferred to the Homieĺ Regional Museum of Local Lore. In February 2002, the Hunting Lodge, as an architectural monument, was given the status of a historical and cultural value. On May 18, 2009, the grand opening of the museum took place. Nowadays there are 3 permanent exhibitions in the museum. The expositions “History of Homieĺ from Ancient Times to the Beginning of the 20th Century” and “Walks in Old Homieĺ” present a retrospective of the city's formation. Visitors can see coins from the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Russian Empire, as well as documents, photographs, construction projects and works that define the architectural appearance of Homieĺ in the late 19th and early 20th century. Walking along the improvised streets of Homieĺ, you can get an idea of the confessional composition of the townspeople, get into the crowd at the station, drop into a photo studio, grocery store or market.
The exposition "Interiors of a City Maner of the Late 19th – Early 20th Century" allows the modern viewer to get closer to the life of urban families, their living conditions, to feel the atmosphere of a bygone era. Everyone is invited to visit the museum.
