Monument to Jeŭfrasinnia Polackaja – Belarusian enlightener of the twelfth century.

The monument has been established in the historical centre of the city in 2000. A famous Belarusian sculptor Uladzimir Holubieu is the author. The height of the sculpture with the base is three metres twenty centimeters. The monument was founded in Minsk; a part of money for production of the sculpture was collected by not indifferent for Belarusian history people. Efrasinnia of Polatsk was the granddaughter of a famous prince of Polack, Usiaslau of Polatsk. She built two churches in Polack on her own personal funds, opened cloisters. There were schools, libraries, scriptoriums, workshops. Efrasinnia was recopying and for certain was translating Biblical books by her own. A master-jeweller Lazar Bohsha made a cross to her order. This cross is a masterpiece of jewellery of the Middle Ages times, disappeared during the Second World War. The disappearance of the cross is one of the most grate mysteries in the history of Belarus. Step up closer to the monument. So you’ll be able to discern better this image of the cross.
