The building of the former male gymnasium is a monument of classicism. Erected in 1809 on the central street of the city. This is a monument of national importance.

In 1789, the Main Public School was opened in Mahilioŭ. On September 15, 1809, the Mahilioŭ Main Public School was transformed into a men's gymnasium. It was housed in three old buildings that belonged to the city. At the end of the summer of 1830, the gymnasium moved to a building previously occupied by the military. Together with it, a district school and a lancastrian school were located in the same premises. The pupils and teachers of the gymnasium supported the uprising of 1863–1864. As a result, the gymnasium was temporarily closed, some of the teachers were dismissed, and some were arrested. The new headmaster of the gymnasium increased the supervision of the pupils.

On February 1, 1919, the former Mahilioŭ Provincial Male Gymnasium became known as the Mahilioŭ Soviet School. In the pre-war Soviet period, the language of instruction at the school changed several times: until 1926 it was Russian, from 1926 to 1938 it was Jewish, in 1938–1941 it was Belarusian, but most of the subjects were still taught in Russian.

During the German occupation, the school continued to operate, but under the name "People's School No. 3" in a different building, since the former building was transferred to barracks and a staging post. This building was badly damaged during the war. By 1949, the school building was completely renovated. In 1956, the joint education of boys and girls began at the school. In 1963, a new school building was built, and in 1983 another building was completed. In 1991, by the decision of the Mahilioŭ Regional Executive Committee, the school was again given the status of a gymnasium.
