The obelisk commemorating the events of the war of 1812 is associated with the confrontation of Russian and French troops near the city .
In the square on vulica Savieckaja there is a massive granite obelisk, which was installed on this place in 1912. It is dedicated to the 100 centenary of the Russian-French war of 1812. The installation of the monument was due to the fact that in the war of 1812, near the city, in the bend of the Zachodniaja Dzvina, there were fortified positions of Russian troops – the “Drisen Camp”. During the reconstruction of the square in 2018, the obelisk was renovated.
