The Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas was built in Vierchniadzvinsk in 1819.
St. Nicholas Church was built in the classical style near the confluence of the Drysa and Dzvina rivers. In 1895, the church became the cathedral church of the city. In the early Soviet times, the temple was looted and closed. During the World War II, services were held in St. Nicholas Church, but after the war it was closed again. At the time of independence, the church was returned to the believers. In 2004, the church celebrated its 185th anniversary. By this date, at the expense of the parishioners, a bell weighing 7 pounds was cast for St. Nicholas Church.
Today, St. Nicholas Church is a monument of classical architecture. The canonical 4-part three-dimensional composition consists of a narthex and bell tower, a refectory, a prayer hall, and a semicircular apse.
