The central pedestrian street of Viciebsk today bears the name of Suvoraŭ. Its buildings consist mainly of buildings of the 18th-19th centuries.
The modern pedestrian street is one of the oldest streets in Viciebsk. Until the 19th century, it was called Uzhorskaja, later Aficerskaja, since 1900 – Suvoraŭskaja. After the establishment of Soviet power, it was renamed Valadarskaja.
In 2010, the street became pedestrian. Its length is 1300 meters. There are many historical buildings on the street. Among them – the city hall of the 18th century (now it is the regional Museum of Local Lore), former shopping malls of the late 18th century, former apartment buildings of the 19th century, former city estates of the 19th century, communal houses in the style of constructivism and other attractions.
One of the faculties of Viciebsk State University is located in the building of the former men's spiritual school of the 19th century (house No. 44). Children's Art School (house No. 3) is located in the building of the 19th – early 20th century. In this building, in 1923–1941, the Belarusian State Art College worked, which brought up a whole galaxy of painters and graphic artists. In 2009, the reconstruction of the Resurrection Church, a unique monument of the Baroque era, was completed on the street.
Benches on both sides of the street, a fountain in the square near the town hall, paving stones, small cozy cafes and restaurants, hairdressers and shops dispose citizens and guests for leisurely walks and recreation.
