The Mark Šahal Art Center is a part of the Mark Šahal museum in Viciebsk, equal in importance to the house-museum of the great artist

The Art Center of Mark Šahal was opened in 1992 in a building of the 19th century, the image of which is in the famous painting "Over the City". The "Council of Assistance" to the Šahal house-museum in Viciebsk (Nienburg, Germany) donated first art works to the art center. In 1994, the artist's daughter Ida Šahal presented the museum three colored aquatints with the signature of Mark Šahal. The artist's granddaughters also presented the museum 96 unique etchings, which represented a series of illustrations for the work of Nikolai Gogol "Dead Souls", as well as the artist's illustrations for the Bible.

The German Heinrich Mandel was a great help in the formation of the art center's collection. He presented the center a large number of works by Šahal, as well as about 2 thousand books dedicated to the work of Mark Šahal and the art of the classical avant-garde. On the basis of this book collection, a specialized scientific library was opened in the art center in 2002, which has already 3 thousand publications.

Today, the Mark Šahal Art Center in Viciebsk has about 300 real works of the artist in its collection. Among them there are woodcuts (engravings on wood), etchings (engravings on metal), lithographs (drawings created by printing from stone), aquatines (engravings obtained by etching a metal plate with acid).

In addition to Mark Šahal works, the art center houses works of other European avant-garde artists. Among them there are the works of circulation graphics by Pablo Picasso, Juan Miro, Henri Matisse and others.

Within the framework of the "Šahal Readings", scientific conferences, vernissages, lectures, plein-airs, as well as exhibitions of graphic works by emerging artists are held.
