The temple is the largest building in Smarhoń.

Initially, the Orthodox Church was located on vulica Skamarochavaja and had been built of wood no later than the XVII century. The stone temple was built only in 1840. Having survived the damage of the First and Second World Wars, the temple was closed by the Soviet authorities in 1962. However, believers continued to come under the walls of the church and pray. The cathedral can accommodate about 1,5 thousand believers at the same time. It is the largest building in the city and is located on a hill near the city square. It can be viewed from all sides of the city. The architecture of the temple is solved in the traditional features of Orthodox art of building and resembles the outlines of the previous temple. The height of the temple is 40 meters. There is a crypt temple in the underground part.
