Mazyr Castle is a wooden defensive and administrative building of the XV century in Mazyr.
Behind the walls and defensive towers are hidden a palace living and household buildings, a church and also a deep well in case of a long siege of an enemy. Waters of the notable Prypiat River were defending from three sides the bottom of a mountain. More than once Mazyr Castle withstood attacks but in the middle of the XVII century was ruined during the emancipation of the city from the Cossacks of Bohdan Khmelnytsky by the forces of hetman Janush Radzivil. In 2005 Mazyr Castle was partle renewed for 850 anniversary of the city of Mazyr. Now the historical centre “Mazyr Castle” is a unique museum, the reduced copy of what the Castle was in the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The footing of a church of the beginning of the XV century on which the wooden church was renewed survived in the territory of the Castle. Entertainments take place here during city festivals. Performances of knightly clubs which are engaged in historical reconstruction are held.
