Monument to Prince-founder of Barysaŭ – to Prince Barys – was established in 2002 and dedicated to the 900th anniversary of the city.
The monument is placed near Holy Resurrection Cathedral in the old part of Barysau – the place of the foundation of the city. The project of the monument is developed by a sculptor Artymovich and architects Marozau and Kavalieuski. From the backside of the sculpture of Boris you can see Angel who protects him on difficult life journey. The foundation of Barysau dates back to the very beginning of the XII century and is connected with the name of the Prince of Polack Barys Usiaslavavich. According to chronicles, in 1102 Barys Usiaslavavich founded a city at the confluence of rivers Scha and Biarezina and gived it his name – Barys. Barys was the son of the most powerful prince of Polack Usiaslau of Polack. After the death of the father he took the Polack throne. The prince directed a lot of efforts to the distribution of Christianity on the Belarusian territories, was rendering intercession to Eufrasinnia of Polack. The memorials of epigraphy “Barys Stones” which have been preserved till nowadays are named just after him.
