A synagogue − “Hevre tylim” − was built in Barysaŭ in 1911. The building is preserved almost originally.

Jewish community exists in Barysau from the XVI century. In the XVII century Barysau kahal was one of the richest in Belarus for a time, local Jews were active dealing in bread and wood with Riga and Northern Black Sea area. The number of Jews in the city was continually growing. The population census of the end of the XIX century detected the number of Jews which overpassed the half of the population of the city. The Jews of Barysau and neighbourhood were practicing dressmaking, trading. Seven synagogues, Talmud Torab, private specialized schools (man and woman) were functioning in Barysau in 1910. In 1944 educating society “Light of Menorah” with the permission of City Executive Committee established there a security mark according to which the building of the synagogue is protected by the law.
