The Masaĺskis’ Palace Complex was built in the first half of the 18th century. Today the Masaĺskis’ Stone House is considered the most magnificent building on Zamkavaja Vulica.
The Hrodna Palace Complex of the Masaĺskis dukes was once located on the today’s Zamkavaja Vulica. It was built in the first half of the 18th century. Its two-storey architectural composition looked like the letter П. Already in the middle of the 18th century, the Masaĺskis built a stone house near the main palace – a smaller copy of the main palace, but with a high tiled roof. According to the plan, the building had the shape of the letter П. A one-story utility room was adjacent to it from the north side.
In 1899, the Masaĺskis’ Palace burned down. The fire forced to disassemble most of the structure, from the fragments of which a new house was built. During the Second World War, there was a ghetto here, as evidenced by a plaque on the corner of the building. The Nazis killed about 29 thousand people in the Hrodna Ghetto.
The Masaĺskis’ Stone House was more fortunate. The reconstruction of this building took place in 1912. In the interwar period, the roof was rebuilt and a third floor was added. After the Second World War, a triangular pediment and several balconies appeared over the entrance. Since the 1970s and to the present day it houses the dormitory of the local Hrodna Medical University.
