The monument to castellan Davyd Haradzienski is located next to the Hrodna castles at the intersection of Davyd Haradzienski and Zamkavaja streets.
Duke Davyd Haradzienski is a Belarusian commander of the first quarter of the XIV century. He was a castellan of the Hrodna castle and became famous by participation in the wars with the German knights. He was treacherously killed in 1326 and buried in Hrodna.
The sponsor of the monument was Anatolij Karabač, the founder of the Minsk "Hors-Motors" company, the Hrodna Orthodox Diocese also provided support. The author of the monument is sculptor Siarhiej Ahanaŭ, whose project was chosen as the best among thirteen. The monument to Davyd Haradzienski was solemnly unveiled on June 1, 2018 in the presence of representatives of the city authorities and the Minister of Culture of Belarus.
The monument consists of two parts: the pedestal and the sculpture itself. Total weight is 16 tons, height is 3.7 m. The sculpture is made of light gray Bashkir granite. The monument is an equestrian statue of the famous Belarusian commander. In his left hand, the duke holds the cross of Jeŭfrasinnia Polackaja pressing it to the heart, and in his right the duke holds a sword. Below is the Hrodna Castle of the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. On the back there is a shield and the Kaloža Church, next to which, according to legend, Davyd Haradzienski was buried.
