The monument to the famous writer Eliza Ažeška is one of the oldest sculptures in Hrodna.

The idea of creating the monument appeared in 1923. The city magistrate was the initiator. There was a competition, and Ramuaĺd Zierych, the graduate of the Warsaw Academy of Arts, was the winner. It was him who created a bronze bust. Bas-relief plots of the writer's works "Above Nioman" and "Ad Astra" were placed on the first tier of the pedestal. On October 20, 1929, the opening of the monument took place in the park on Teatraĺnaja Square, which was located on the site of the modern city park.

During its existence, the sculpture has repeatedly changed its location. During the Second World War, the monument disappeared. Later it was found in the city cemetery. It is unknown how it got there. According to the first version, mindful citizens thus protected the bust from destruction during the war. According to the second, the Germans themselves took out the unnecessary monument and threw it out in the cemetery.

In June 1947, the Hrodna Executive Committee decided to restore the monument to Eliza Ažeška. The monument was restored: a bust of gray polished granite was installed on a complex multi-stage pedestal with an inscription in Polish “Elizie Orzeszkowej”. In August 1947, the monument was solemnly unveiled in the park at the intersection of Ažeška and Teliehrafnaja streets. Today the monument is located at this place.
