"Stairs of People in Love" leads from the New Castle to the Nioman embankment. It appeared less than 100 years ago, but a rare excursion around the landmarks of Hrodna is conducted without visiting it.

The "Stairs of People in Love" leads from the New Castle to the Nioman embankment. In old times, there was just a descent and wooden steps leading to a private estate. Every year Nioman overflowed the banks and flooded the dwellings of the townspeople. Although the castles stood on a hill, the flood also affected them. In 1925, part of the roof of the New Castle collapsed, and in 1927 part of the square under the Old Castle sank. Considering this, in 1928 the Hrodna authorities made a decision to build a boulevard. During its construction, the houses adjacent to the castle were demolished. Construction lasted six years: every year Nioman overflowed the banks, washing away the sections that were already built. In the end, the construction was completed, and in 1934 lanterns were lit on the boulevard and wide stairs became its real decoration.

After the Second World War, the stairs were extensively rebuilt, but during the Soviet period they fell into disrepair. The "Stairs of People in Love" got a new life in independent Belarus. In 2005, the city authorities started its reconstruction.

The "Stairs of People in Love" got such a name because Hrodna newlyweds like to visit it on their wedding day.
