The monument to the Belarusian poetess and writer Alaiza Paškievič (Ciotka) is loved not only by tourists, but also by residents of Ščučyn. Literary and cultural events are often held near it.
Belarusian poetess and writer Alaiza Paškievič (literary pseudonym «Ciotka») is one of the founders of Belarusian national literature, an activist of the Belarusian national movement. Ciotka was published in the first Belarusian newspapers «Naša Dolia» and «Naša Niva», and was the chief editor of the children's magazine «Lučynka». In 1911 and 1912 she organized illegal Belarusian schools in Viĺnia region, and during the First World War she taught at Belarusian teacher learning courses in Viĺnia. Despite a fairly short life path (born in 1876 and died in 1916), she managed to occupy an important place in the history of Belarus of the XX century.
Alaiza Paškievič is the author of the poetry collections «Skrypka bielaruskaja» and «Chrest na svabodu». Alaiza Paškievič also wrote for children. Among her works is «Pieršaja čytanka dlia dzietak bielarusaŭ», as well as the children's chrestomathy «Hasciniec dlia malych dzietak» translated from Ukrainian.
There is a monument and a museum of Alaiza Paškievič not far from Ščučyn in the urban settlement Astryna (previously there was the estate Novy Dvor here, where Ciotka was born). However, it was decided to honor the memory of the famous literary activist also in Ščučyn. The author of the Ščučyn monument to Ciotka was the famous Grodno sculptor Alieś Lipień. The monument to Alaiza Paškievič, like other works of the master, is characterized by the absence of flatulence, fine processing of small details and the beauty of the lines.
