The majestic Lukomĺ state district power plant, the most powerful power plant in Belarus before the construction of the nuclear power plant in Astraviec, stands at the entrance to the city. State district power plant buildings are an example of industrial architecture.

The buildings of the Lukomĺ state district power plant were built according to the project of the Riga branch of the “Teploelektroproekt” Institute. The first power unit was put into operation in December 1969.

The main production block consists of three volumes that are rectangular in plan (engine, deaerator and boiler departments). The building of the state district power plant is solved in modern forms of industrial architecture. The horizontal division of wall and light panels provides an easy solution to facades and emphasizes the frame-panel structure of the building. With the help of the transitional gallery, the volume of the combined auxiliary block is attached to the end of the main block. It houses the administration, domestic premises, a first-aid post and a dining room.

Three pipes with a height of 250 meters and a diameter of 6,5 meters near the mouth complete the volumetric-spatial composition of the complex and are being its vertical dominants.

In 2002, the modernization of the main equipment of the power plant (power units and turbines) began. After modernization, the power of the Lukomĺ state district power plant increased to 2889 megawatts. Electricity generation at the Lukomĺ state district power plant accounts for 50% of the generation of the entire energy system of Belarus.
