The Museum of Maksim Bahdanovič was opened in 1986 in the house where the family of the famous Belarusian poet lived in 1892–1896.
The Bahdanovičs moved to this house when the poet's father, Adam Jahoravič, was promoted to a local bank. The Bahdanovič family was very educated and intelligent, so their house became a meeting place for the city's creative elite. However, after the death of the poet's mother, Maryja Afanaśjeŭna, Adam Jahoravič moved with his children to Nizhny Novgorod.
Among the exhibits of the museum, a special place is occupied by the personal belongings of Maksim Bahdanovič, his letters, documents and family photographs. A separate place is given to the only lifetime collection of the poet's poems, which is called "Wreath". The museum also contains objects of urban life of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, written evidence of the literary life of that time, works of poets and writers of Hrodna Region.
The museum is represented by exhibition halls: “Portrait gallery of famous figures of Belarus”, “Hrodna period in the life of the Bahdanovič family”, “Literary and social movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries” and four memorial rooms: the cabinet of the poet's father Adam Jahoravič, his mother Maryja Afanaśjeŭna, children's and living room.
The scientific and educational work of the museum includes various types of activities: survey and thematic excursions, museum classes, lectures, creative meetings, literary and musical evenings, theatricalized excursions.
