Church of the Holy Cross is a monument of architecture in Vilnius Baroque style.
The building of a church in Lida was planned from the very moment of the foundation of the town. The year of 1388 is considered to be the year of the building of the first church in Lida. The order to build it was given by the King Jahajla. However, the church existed not for a long period: Crusaders set it on fire. In 8 years, another church was built but we can't see it either because in the XVII century it burnt down. According to witnesses in 1674, another wooden church was constructed but it is unknown where in particular. Finally, in XVII seventy a turn came to build this church - Church of Exaltation of the Holy Cross - which fortunately survived until nowadays. Its architect is Johann Christoph Glaubitz (by the way, he is a founder of the style "Vilnius Baroque"). The temple was being built for 5 years. Unfortunately, the founder and the architect did not see the result of their work – shortly before the complete end of the building the both creators passed to their eternal rest. Church of Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a T-shaped building. The chancel is right-angled. On the vaulting and walls, there are frescos.
