Museum of Brest City History was opened on July 25, 1998. More than 800 exhibits that tell about the history of the city since ancient times, are presented in the exhibition.

The idea of creating a museum of the city appeared before the World War II and belonged to a teacher of geography Mandaĺski and an officer of Brest garrison Žuk-Rybicki. After the war, an ethnographer Alieksijuk, who wrote the book “History of Brest”, continued to collect materials on the history of Brest.

Today, Museum of Brest City History is located in a small mansion, which was built in 1922 according to the project of an architect Julijan Lisiecki. Initially, the museum was a branch of the Brest Regional Local History Museum, but since 2007 the Brest museum became a structural division of the Department of Culture of the Brest City Administration.

The museum displays more than 800 exhibits that tell the history of the city since its founding in 1019. The exposition is located in 4 halls. The first hall is devoted to the history of ancient and medieval Brest, the second – to the history of the Brest-Litoŭsk in the Russian Empire, the third – to the history of Brest-nad-Buham in Poland, the fourth hall – to the history of Brest in the Soviet period.
