Reserve "Prybužskaje Paliessie"

Paliessie, called Prybužskaje, stretched out on the banks of the Zachodni Buh River. In 2003, the Republican reserve "Prybužskaje Palessie" was created here. Thanks to that event, most of the Brest region became a biosphere reserve.

In 2004, UNESCO officially confirmed the status of the reserve.

"Prybužskaje Paliessie" is swamps, small lakes, a close thicket, sand hills, wetland alder stands, several rivers.

Plant diversity is extremely high. There are 910 species of plants, including 44 rare, listed in the Red Data Book, species of fungi, growing under natural conditions. The fauna of the reserve is also diverse. About 40 species of fish, 13 species of amphibians, 7 species of reptiles, 238 species of birds, 62 species of rodents and about 18 thousand of invertebrates.

In addition to the diversity of flora and fauna in the territory of the reserve you can see various buildings. There are many temple buildings, built in XVII–XIX centuries. St. Michael's Church, St. Elias Church, Holy Transfiguration Church, Church of St. Luke, Church of the Immaculate Conception of Virgin Mary are excellent examples of temple architecture.

In "Prybužskaje Paliessie" there is the Space Museum. It is found in these places, because this is where Piotr Klimuk, the first Belarusian astronaut, was born and grew up.
