The First of May Park in the city of Brest is not only the most popular park among the residents and tourists, but also the oldest park in the city.
Initially the First of May Park was called the city park. It was founded in 1906. Initially the park occupied a territory of 4 hectares. Throughout its existence, the park has increased fivefold, and today its area is 20 hectares.
In 2006 the First of May Park celebrated its centenary. The preparations for this major event began in 2004, when in the park a global reconstruction was started.
Today there is a natural complex and entertainment areas in the park. Visitors can see a large variety of ancient trees, which are considered the most rare in this part of Europe: tamarisk, serpentinum, a plane tree and many others.
There is an amphitheatre, cafes and restaurants, a merry-go-rounds in the park. Also, there is the island of lovers and the bridge to it.
