The park of soldiers-internationalists was laid out in memory of the Belarusians who died in the Soviet-Afghan war of 1979-1989.
Soldiers-internationalists were the soldiers of the Soviet times who were sent to fight outside of the Soviet Union – "to provide international assistance". In 1979 – 1989 about 30 thousand Belarusians took part in the Soviet military campaign in Afghanistan, 771 of our compatriots died.
On a pedestal at the main entrance to the park there is a Soviet armored personnel carrier. The alley to the right of the pedestal leads deeper into the park – to the memorial, which was built in memory of fallen soldiers-internationalists. There is a plaque on the monument, which reads: "To fellow soldiers, who died in the lands of Afghanistan."
The park of soldiers-internationalists is considered an environmentally friendly place of the city. The park zone gradually merges into a scenic forest. Due to this, in the park there are a lot of squirrels and birds, which is considered its hallmark.
