"Biarescie" Historical and Archaeological Museum

"Biarescie" Historical and Archaeological Museum is a branch of the Brest Regional Museum. It contains unique exhibits of historical and cultural value.

Museum "Biarescie" is located not far from Zachodni Buh and Muchaviec Rivers, on the territory of the Brest Fortress.

The museum was opened in 1982 on the site of archaeological excavations, which had being led since 1968 by the Doctor of Historical Sciences Piotr Lysienka. The exposition and the museum funds consist of 43 thousand exhibits, many of which are available for visitors.

The main exposition – remnants of the hill-fort of ancient Brest with streets and buildings – is divided into parts and is represented in 14 halls-niches. Here there are exhibits devoted to the emergence and formation of the ancient Biarescie, city buildings, artisanal quarters, in which devices for the treatment of non-ferrous metals and iron are shown.

There are also interior design items, which were used by people who lived in those days on the territory of Brest region – metal, glass, wood, earthenware products, homespun clothes, bones and bone products, lots of jewelry, utensil and devices for machine tools.

In the museum you can see leather and bonecarve workshops, weaving and pottery machine tools, household items, which helped ancient Slavs in agriculture, animal husbandry, with hunting and fishing. These items are stored in a specially equipped pavilion, a total area of which is 2400 square meters. The modern exhibition hall is built of concrete, aluminum and glass.
