Yanka Kupalas' Park in Minsk is located on the riversides of Svislač. This is a fairly large park area, a resting place for residents and guests of the capital.
On the territory of Yanka Kupala Park Park there was a house in which the classic of Belarusian literature lived from 1927 to 1941. Near the house of Kupala there were residential buildings that were destroyed during the Second World War.
After the war, it was decided to create a park zone here. The first work began in 1949, but the construction of the park was completed only in 1962. Then it was given the name of the great Belarusian poet – Yanka Kupala.
Already in the 1950s the first young trees were planted on this territory. That were rare at that time blue maples, balsamic and Siberian firs, Manchurian walnut.
In 1959, on the spot where the Yanka Kupala house was situated, the Yanka Kupala Museum was founded. This museum has 36 thousand exhibits, among which are the poet’s lifetime publications, autographed books, manuscripts, photographs, documents and much more.
Initially, a monument to the hero of the Soviet Union Siarhiej Hrycaviec was erected in the central alley of the park, and only in 1972, on the 90th anniversary of the birth of Yanka Kupala, it was replaced with a memorial to the great Belarusian poet.
At the intersection of the main and central alleys there is a fountain with the sculptural composition "Wreath". This composition depicts one of the ancient Belarusian folk customs – immersion of wreaths in the river for a Kupallie holiday.
