Three nations – Belarusians, Poles, and Lithuanians – think that Adam Mickievič is their national genius. For the 110th anniversary since his death, in 1965, a monument to the great poet was erected in Brest.

Construction of a street, which today bears the name of Adam Mickievič, began during the life of the famous poet, in the 30s of XIX century. In the early ⅩⅩ century it was called Cahlianaja and Dvaranskaja. After 1921, when the Western Belarus was annexed to Poland, the Polish authorities have renamed the street in honor of Adam Mickievič. During the Second World War, the name was being changed, but it was decided to return the street the name of Adam Mickiewič again in the post-war years.

The length of Adam Mickievič Street is 1300 m. In 1965 a monument in his honor was erected in the park, which is located on this street.

A monumentalist Aliaksiej Šmakaŭ became the author of the sculpture. The monument is a bronze bust on a low stone pedestal on which the years of the poet's life (1798–1855) are carved. Portraits of Adam Mickievič made in his mature years served as the basis for the image.
