The Resurrection Cathedral is one of the most frequented churches in Brest. It is considered the landmark of Prybužža.
The Resurrection Cathedral was built relatively recently, in 1995-1998. Its construction was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The money was donated by the parishioners, support was provided by the Brest regional executive committee and the city executive committee, as well as the President of the Republic of Belarus. In 1995 the church was consecrated by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ Alexy II.
The Resurrection Cathedral is the biggest church in the city, not only among the Orthodox ones, but among all Christian religious buildings on the territory of Brest. The church can hold up to five thousand worshipers.
The stone cathedral is a church built in the Neo-Russian style, with five domes. The number of them is not accidental: each dome symbolizes Jesus Christ and his apostles, the four evangelists. The church is 41 metres high at its highest point. The cathedral is divided into two churches: a lower, or Kazanski, that occupies 550 square metres, and an upper, or Vaskrasienski, that occupies an area of more than 700 square metres.
In 2001 the church got its own bell, which weighs four kilos and is placed in the bell tower at the height of 47.5 metres.
