House-Museum of Marc Chagall was opened in 1997. It presents everyday objects of the XIX-XX centuries, copies of archival documents and works of the artist.

Viciebsk, Marc Chagall's hometown, was an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the artist. This house on Pokrovskaya Street, where artist spent his childhood and teenage years, was built by his father in the early 20th century. During the WWII the brick building was badly damaged by bombing but miraculously survived.

In 1997, the memorial museum of Marc Chagall was established here. The exposition contains everyday life objects of the 19th and 20th centuries. Also there are stored real "witnesses" of Chagall's life - archival documents, and the first works and personal belongings of the artist and his family. There remained not many of them, but the atmosphere of the era transferred as accurately as possible: antique artifacts for the collection were selected with the help of Marc Chagall’s drawings. Thus the artist has kept the interiors of the parental home. Nowadays scientists, historians, art critics and artists from around the world come here to feel the atmosphere of this place. They come to see where one of the most prominent representatives of the world's avant-garde of the twentieth century lived and worked.
