Information about the first Roman Catholic church in Kobryn relates to 1513. According to documents the altar in it was built on the money of Hanna Kobrynskaja-Kascievič. This wooden church burned and was rebuilt several times. However, a fire in 1812 was the last for the church.
Only in May 1840 the project of construction of the temple, which was drafted by architect Noskov, was approved. In 1841, the construction of the temple, which ended in 1843, began. The temple was built on the donations of faithful. In 1851, the Vilnia Bishop Vaclav Zhylinski gave the church the title of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Napalieon Orda, who in 1864 visited Kobryn, made a drawing of the temple.
Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was preserved during the Second World War and remained operating for some time after its completion. In 1962 the church was closed in connection with another anti-religious campaign of Soviet regime. The temple was returned again to faithful in 1990. The church building was restored with the funds of faithful and with the help of a construction company "Energapol" of the city of Kobryn.
